Additionally, Republicans on the committee plan to try to pass crypto-friendly legislation before the end of June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8SCOOP: Prior to today&#39;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FinancialCmte?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FinancialCmte<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseAgGOP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HouseAgGOP<\/a> hearing on digital asset regulation, a memo was circulated among Democrat Committee members. <br><br>It contained &quot;key messages&quot; for the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FSCDems?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FSCDems<\/a> to stick to including supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SECGov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SECGov<\/a>&#39;s total authority over crypto regulation,\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AabSfwquaw\">pic.twitter.com\/AabSfwquaw<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Eleanor Terrett (@EleanorTerrett) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EleanorTerrett\/status\/1656362002577772544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 10, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regulatory battle between the SEC and the CFTC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The memo also states that the SEC is the regulator that determines whether cryptocurrencies are securities, and that regulatory ambiguity is not the problem, but massive non-compliance with existing laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite this, the Republicans want to change course and tie the hands of the SEC, which could create a turf war between the SEC and the CFTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Republicans claim they want to bring clarity to the markets by giving the CFTC space for cryptocurrencies, but instead, at the same time, are \u201cundermining\u201d the agency and hurting it by proposing to cut its budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The call for transparency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Tuesday, Republicans Patrick McHenry and Bill Huizenga demanded that the SEC release internal documents and communications with Sam Bankman-Fried.
