This update has been included in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.islabit.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/username-whatsapp-1024x776.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-170425\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WABetaInfo\/status\/1661478537696800768\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WABetaInfo<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Approaching communication on Instagram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The introduction of this username option takes WhatsApp one step closer to the way people communicate on Instagram, an app owned by Meta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While exactly how the username in the messaging app will work is still unknown, it could represent a major change in the way people connect on WhatsApp and could improve privacy as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of sharing their phone number or QR code, users could simply share their chosen username to chat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has been mentioned that end-to-end encryption will continue to be present in WhatsApp conversations initiated through the username.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Editing messages and &#8220;Chat Lock&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This news comes on the heels of another release of a highly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.islabit.com\/en\/169929\/three-exclusive-features-whatsapp-has-in-android-but-not-in-iphone.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anticipated feature<\/a>: message editing. With the latest update, WhatsApp users can modify a message within 15 minutes of sending it. However, the word &#8220;edited&#8221; will be displayed next to the timestamp to indicate that the message has been modified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, the messaging app recently introduced a feature called &#8220;Chat Lock&#8221; back in May. This tool allows users to protect individual or group chats with a password or biometric authentication.
