You can install it on your computer or mobile phone. It can cipher your Internet connection and hide your navigation experience. However, <strong>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.islabit.com\/en\/168441\/vpn-not-connecting-what-to-check-in-order-to-fix-it.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VPN does not always work<\/a> properly<\/strong>. Many apps will see your location even if you have a VPN active. Why does this happen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When <strong>using a VPN <\/strong>you connect to an external server that can be allocated in other country. That helps to modify the location from where you connect to certain services with geographic lock. The GPS of your device, for example, can be informing your location to other apps even though you are using the VPN for privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>GPS in Smartphones<\/strong> is normal and there are lots of apps that use coordinates and location for working properly. For example, weather apps that require to know your location in order to inform you of the correct weather information. If you are using a VPN, the GPS will still reveal your location. Basically, if you are using a VPN the GPS data will not be affected. Be aware of apps and services that use the GPS if you want to properly hide your location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Another way to know your location when using a VPN<\/strong>, it\u2019s through nearby WiFi networks. Each access point has an unique MAC address. The devices will detect these networks even if you don\u2019t connect. That way, even without GPS and using a VPN, a third party could analyze your location. Bluetooth is another technology that may reveal your location. In some airports there are BLE beacons that recognize Bluetooth devices to register your passing through different places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Don\u2019t make mistakes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are worried about data leaks and your real time location, it\u2019s also important to avoid mistakes. A VPN can help you to keep your privacy but it\u2019s not infallible. You may be leaking information without knowing. For example, you can make a post in your social networks sharing the location with your friends. It\u2019s a very common error in Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you <strong>register to a new platform or website<\/strong> you can also introduce data that reveals your location. Always remember that data leaks may end up in hackers hands. Usually, the best alternative to protect your privacy is using your common sense. Don\u2019t register to shady websites and be aware when sharing your personal data. The use of a good VPN service like NordVPN or Surfshark is useful, but you also need to be smart when navigating the Internet.
