You can set a simple mode for your iPhone<\/strong> and have your grandpa start getting used to it. The main objective is to offer a comfortable an useful experience with no navigation gestures or other oddities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the new features of iOS 17<\/a> was the Assistive Access for iPhone, specially created for grandpa and other users with difficulties. Basically it offers a minimalistic user interface and easy access to the most common apps in iPhone. It also features bigger buttons and text. In order to activate the assistive access mode you need to follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Open Settings app on the iPhone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Go to Accessibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Press on Assistive Access and set it up.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The function includes a configuration guide<\/strong> that explains the different options. You can view the apps in files or in a bigger grid and you can select which ones are available. It even allows you the option to set certain features for each app in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You won\u2019t need to introduce a PIN<\/a> for your SIM card to leave Assistive Access mode<\/strong>. It\u2019s also easy to make an emergency call as you just have to press the lateral button three times. You can also press the lateral button three times to leave Assistive Access mode but you will be asked to input the PIN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If Assistive Access<\/strong> doesn\u2019t convince you or your grandpa, you can also set the iPhone manually. Even if you don\u2019t want to use the minimalistic style, you can set letter size, bold type and other issues manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
