What does IP68 and IP69 mean?
The IEC 60529 official rule the main differences between IP68 and IP69 are related to time and depth you can dive with them. A IP68 mobile phone is completely hermetic and you can use it 30 minutes down to 1,5 meters without any damage. They are not recommended for swimming in salty water.
The IP69 mobile phones are also hermetic and water resistant, but they also resist high pressure and high temperatures. It’s a great tool in case you are using hot water and the phone falls down.
IP68 mobile phones are for those who want to take a deep dives whereas IP69 can give you extra protection for high temperature water. It’s not a matter of 69 been better than 68 because it arrives later. On the other hand, each mobile phone developer takes its own tests for the devices. Then you can find some mobile phones that can stay under water for more time. Even though the brands sell the phones as water resistant, it’s very hard for you to receive technical assistance if the model is broken due to water. So be careful and do not overpass the time limits of each developer. That way you can protect your phone.
