samsung wallet send money tapping

Samsung Wallet now lets you send money by tapping, even on your iPhone.

This month, a new feature will be enabled in Samsung Wallet that allows users to send money by tapping. It’s called Tap to Transfer, and it allows users to send money simply by bringing their smartphones together.

The big advantage is that it doesn’t require the use of another app to make the transfer. However, the person receiving the money must have a physical debit card (Visa or Mastercard) that supports contactless payments (NFC technology), and this includes cards stored in other digital wallets, such as Apple’s.

Differences with the same Apple feature

This way of transferring money by tapping devices shares similarities with existing options on Apple devices (starting with iOS 18).

Apple users with iPhone or Apple Watch can send or receive Apple Cash by bringing two devices together. It also uses NFC, and no personal information such as phone number or email is shared during the exchange.

There is another facet of Tap to Pay on iPhone, aimed at merchants – independent sellers, small businesses, and large chains. It allows users to use an iPhone as a terminal to accept contactless payments from other iPhone users, compatible cards, and digital wallets. However, this commercial version does require a third-party payment app, such as those from Shopify, Square, or Clover.

This marks a distinction from Samsung’s ability to transfer money between individuals, which doesn’t require installing an additional app for payment.
