How do Bitcoin's halving cycles compare?

Roughly every four years, Bitcoin's block reward is cut in half (the "halving"). This chart lines up the price after each halving — 2016, 2020 and 2024 — rebased to 100 on the halving day, so you can compare the shape of each cycle on the same scale (logarithmic), regardless of the dollar price at the time.

The horizontal axis is the number of days since each halving; the current cycle is highlighted and only extends as far as today.

This is a purely descriptive, historical comparison. Past performance does not imply future results, and nothing here is a prediction or investment advice.

What is the halving?

About every four years (every 210,000 blocks) the reward miners receive for each block is halved. It is a fixed, pre-programmed feature of Bitcoin's issuance schedule. We simply mark those dates and compare price behaviour afterwards.

Why rebase to 100?

Each cycle started at a very different price. Rebasing every cycle to 100 on its halving day puts them on the same footing so their relative paths can be compared on one logarithmic scale.

Does this predict the current cycle?

No. Showing past cycles together does not mean the current one will repeat them. It is a historical description; the future may differ entirely. This is not advice.

Where does the data come from?

Weekly BTC-USD closing prices come from Yahoo Finance (no API key), covering the history since 2015 (enough to span the 2016, 2020 and 2024 halvings). Everything is computed live; nothing is stored.
