There are multiple alternatives when choosing operating systems for your PC. You can install different type of software solutions in your desktop computer but most users still choose Windows. In this article you will learn the main reasons for this decision.
Microsoft’s Windows is the most popular operating system for computers. Although there are several complaints in terms of privacy, security and customization, Windows is still the operating system users choose the most. It’s strange because there were extremely hated versions such as Windows 8 or Millennium Edition. In the free spectrum you have different versions of Linux with several features and improvements for certain uses, but Windows is still the leader of the sector.
Why do users choose Windows instead of Linux?
The main arguments to choose Windows over Linux are listed in this article. Although an open source free operating system sounds tempting, most users choose and defend Windows for all kinds of everyday activities and use in house or at the office.
Software compatibility
Most of the popular software solutions are designed to be compatible with Windows. From Microsoft Office to Adobe Photoshop or most of the AAA videogames you want to install and enjoy in your computer. For that reason, changing the operating system is not a comfortable option.
Videogame exclusives
Linux has really improved in terms of videogame compatibility, but Windows is still the main option for gamers. You will find a bigger game list and less problems in terms of performance and compatibility using Microsoft’s operating system.
Friendly user experience
Windows is more user friendly than Linux, even though there are several distributions that make the open source experience friendlier. For new users, the idea of learning a new operating system method is not that attractive.
Windows is installed by default in most new computers
When you buy a new computer, it’s not that strange to find a Windows version already installed. In case you want a Linux distribution you need to install it before starting to work or play.
Hardware support
Software developers are conscious that Windows is a more popular solution and they develop drivers for it first. On Linux you usually need to wait and manually set up all hardware components.
More enterprise use
Most of the offices and professional environments around the world use Windows. It’s a more user friendly operating system that most workers know and use. Linux is having a tough time gaining terrain there.
Technical support
In a similar way, Microsoft offers technical support for those who buy a Windows licence. On the other hand, Linux distributions require manually revising settings or checking forums to do so.
