Best graphics console comparision

Steam Deck, ROG Xbox Ally X or PS5, which console has the best graphics?

The new ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X console is out and the debate about best graphics console arises again. The discussion includes performance and graphic quality aspects. In the YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits they compared the three devices and shed some light on the matter.

The comparison includes the new ASUS console, the Steam Deck from Valve and Sony’s PlayStation 5. The objective of the video is to compare and determine which console has the best graphics using The Last of Us Part I as the running game.

Comparison between game consoles

First of all, it’s important to notice that the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X is the newest console from the trio. The Steam Deck launched in 2022 and the PlayStation 5 is among us from 2020. It’s also noticeable that PS 5 doesn’t require battery life because it’s a desktop console.

The PlayStation 5 console has been set on Performance Mode to make it fair with the handheld consoles. The Steam Deck runs The Last of Us Part I title with recommended settings. It means: Low/Very Low 800p and FSR enabled. Finally, the ROG Xbox Ally runs it with Medium settings, FSR enabled, 1080p native resolution and Frame Generation.

With these settings Naughty Dog’s title runs at 80-90 FPS on the new ASUS handheld console. If you select the Turbo performance profile you almost need to plug the console because the battery runs out within 30 minutes. However, Turbo mode gives you a similar experience to the desktop PS 4.  The Steam Deck performance is a little lower. Even running the game on a low resolution it only runs at 30 FPS.

The conclusion was similar to the expectations. PlayStation 5 is extremely superior to handheld consoles. It also shows that years have passed for the Steam Deck and it’s barely capable of running The Last of Us Part I in a decent way. The ROG Xbox Ally X is a good alternative but in high quality it only lasts 30 to 40 minutes.

The future of videogame consoles

The recent development of the main brands of videogames show that handheld consoles are here to stay. Nintendo Switch 2 is a great example, but now the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X introduces high end gaming within a handheld console. It’s normal to think that a desktop console like PlayStation 5 will still win in a comparison, but developers trust the mobile features for videogaming.

The community still trusts handheld devices. Maybe in the future the great processing power can be turned into a handheld console capable of running high end games. Battery autonomy seems to be the main obstacle for a new generation of videogames with High Definition graphics and good autonomy. When they solve that problem, we will change the way we play.
